Gary Smith Passes - Standardbred Canada

Tweed, Mel (Wendy) of White Rock, Teresa (Paul) Sirman of Kenora, Gordon (Mary) of Burnaby, Bill (Janice) of Peterborough, Peter of Peterborough, Rhonda (Jeff Bond) of Pontypool, Jamie (Stephanie) of Walkerton and Pamela of Peterborough. Missed by Gail’s sons Chris (Amy) Murray of Elora and Brent (Melissa) Murray of Peterborough. Grandpa of Ella, Charlotte and Raelyn Murray. Will also be missed by his farm dog Buster. Predeceased by his parents John Raymond Smith and Teresa Nora McLaren, sister Donna, younger brother Stanley Raymond and two infant brothers. Gary loved Ennismore, loved being on the land, and most importantly loved his family whom he took particular interest in mentoring and instilling the life skills he held near. Proud of his accomplishments but forever striving to move forward, always with an eye to the future. He leaves a legacy built by his work ethic, determination, intelligence and guile. ‘May the work I’ve done speak for me.’ A visitation will be held at Hendren Funeral Homes, Lakefield Chapel on Thursday, December 29, 2016 from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 – 9:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at St. Martin of Tours Roman Catholic Church at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, December 30, 2016. Interment St. Martin Catholic Cemetery, with a reception to follow in the Church Hall. As expressions of sympathy in lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Salvation Army or “Raise the Barn” Fund at Lang Pioneer Village. Culliton (nee Graf), Frances Anne, (Oct. 12, 2016) - Lambton Shield

ULLITON, Frances Anne (nee Graf) – Of Stratford, Ontario, passed away peacefully, on October 12, 2016, surrounded by her family. Fran was born on July 26, 1931, the daughter of Frank and Jean Graf of Walkerton, Ontario. Fran is survived by her devoted husband of 62 years, Keith A. Culliton. Beloved Mother of seven children and caring grandmother to fifteen grandchildren: Catherine and husband, Douglas Ruby (Sarah and Hilary); Patricia (Warren and Aaron Ehgoetz); Mike and wife, Anna (Laura, Erica, Nicola, Kyle); Gerald and wife, Janet (Grace and Ruth-Anne); Joan; Mary and husband, Rick Wesche (Kate and Eric); and Tim (Connor, Carter and Crosby). Fran will be sadly missed by her sister, Joan Hundt, of Walkerton. She is predeceased by a brother, Gerald, who died in infancy. Fran, a registered nurse, graduated as the Gold Medalist in 1952, from St. Mary’s Hospital School of Nursing, in Kitchener, Ontario. Upon graduation, she worked as the plant nurse at Kroehler Furniture in Stratford. Fran was a certified Master Gardener, an accredited Ontario flower show judge and instructor of floral décor at the Stratford Chef School. Faith was very important to Fran. She was an active member of St.

Squamish. Bruce was born in Perth, Scotland and emigrated to Vancouver in 1955. He graduated from North Vancouver High School in 1958 then attended UBC for two years prior to acceptance into the Ontario Veterinary College in Guelph, Ontario. Bruce graduated in 1965 from the OVC, winning the Winegard medal as the top student. The same year he married Dorothy Ann Gibb, whom he'd met during High School. After a year of clinical practice in Chilliwack, BC, Bruce and Dorothy moved to New York state where Bruce completed his PhD at Cornell University in 1971 in Veterinary Immunopathology. Two years of post-doctoral work in Bern, Switzerland was followed by an appointment to the Ontario Veterinary College in 1973, as professor of Veterinary Immunomicrobiology. Bruce had a distinguished career at the University until retiring in 2006, after which he was granted the title University Professor Emeritus honouring his outstanding research record and significant contribution to the training and development of numerous graduate students. In 2015 the OVC Alumni Association named Bruce the Distinguished Sciences Alumnus for his long, productive academic career. Notable, Bruce and his colleague Patricia Shewen developed a highly successful vaccine for Shipping Fever Pneumonia in cattle, called Presponse. Mr. Daniels's, written in flowing cursive script, came to Mr. Kell in Ottawa, where he was trying to stay clean and build a new life. Mr. Kell's, in bold block letters, arrived at Maplehurst prison in Milton, Ont., where Mr. Daniels was serving out the final months of his latest stretch behind bars.
