March 20, 1940 – March 6, 2019It is with great sorrow that we announce the sudden passing of Dave Couch on Wednesday, March 6th 2019 at Shuswap Lake General Hospital surrounded by family. Dave will be missed by his loving wife Phyllis of 55, nearly 56 years, and leaves behind sons Jason (Carrie), Jonathan (Jan), and Todd (Anita). He also leaves behind 8 grandchildren, brother in law Will (Heather), sister in law Delores, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and countless friends. Dad was born in the small town of Bayard Nebraska. At the age of 15 he moved to Canada with his brother Dwaine. In two short years he and Dwaine started Sure Crop Feeds in Grindrod. Dad was always amazed that local farmers would stop in at the shop and take advice from “those two punk kids.” Over the years the business continued to grow and expand to include other business ventures. Dad split his time between his growing family, the farm, Sure Crop, and playing baseball. South Bend, Indiana, has died in jail. The St. Joseph County prosecutor’s office says 78-year-old George Kearney was found unresponsive Saturday night in the county jail’s medical unit. He was pronounced dead early Sunday. Authorities say Kearney had been terminally ill and signed an order with jail medical staff to take no lifesaving measures if he stopped breathing. His guilty plea in the slaying of 28-year-old Miriam Rice came earlier this month. Kearney was in prison for an unrelated crime when he confessed and said his co-defendant, 56-year-old Barbara Brewster, was also responsible. Both were charged last year. Former Saint John city councillor Donnie Snook has been granted an escorted temporary absence from prison following the death of his father.Police say Snook, who is serving an 18-year prison sentence for abusing boys in two provinces, will be in St. John's, N.L., until Saturday.Correctional Service Canada notified the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary of Snook's arrival in St. John's earlier this week, according to Const. James Cadigan."He's only permitted to attend particular locations in the accompaniment of correctional officers and he'll be returned," Cadigan said.Snook's father died Feb. 24. The funeral will be held in St. John's on Friday, according to an obituary.Snook will be held at Her Majesty's Penitentiary, a provincial jail, overnight during his time in St. John's, Cadigan said.In 2013, Snook admitted to 46 sex crimes against children, including sexual assault, making and distributing child pornography, and extortion.'He hurt a whole community'Snook'...
