Funeral details released for former Barrie mayor Ross Archer - Simcoe.com
Wednesday, March 27, 2019He always treated others with respect and dignity, and would listen carefully to their concerns, whatever they might be. He is honest, loyal, dependable and humble in everything he does. Dad loved Barrie. He is a deep thinker who never makes a quick decision, but has to weigh both sides carefully before finally giving his response."
Archer took over as mayor from Dorian Parker, and was succeeded by Janice Laking, Jim Perri, Rob Hamilton, Dave Aspden and incumbent Jeff Lehman.
He worked to revitalize the downtown core, extend Centennial Park and open a new city hall.
"We were saddened to hear of the passing of this significant figure in our city's history," Lehman said. "Ross's accomplishments as mayor helped build Barrie into the city it is today. Our thoughts are with his family and friends during this difficult time."
Archer was also a longtime member of Burton Avenue United Church and is described in an obituary posted to the Adams Funeral Home website as a "loving husband" who was married to wife Marie for 70 years.
City hall flags are at half-mast to honour Archer.
